The Probolinggo-Situbondo-Banyuwangi (Prosiwangi) toll road section in Situbondo Regency, East Java, has begun functional operations to support the smooth flow of mudik and balik (homecoming and return) traffic during Eid 2026.

AKP Nanang Hendra Irawan, Head of Traffic Police at Situbondo Police Resort, stated on Saturday that the Prosiwangi western toll section will operate functionally from 14-29 March 2026, a period of 16 days.

“During the functional opening period, toll use is free of charge until the Paiton toll exit in Probolinggo, a distance of approximately 46 kilometres, and beyond that point, toll road users must pay according to established tariffs,” he said.

AKP Nanang indicated that congestion is expected at the western Situbondo toll exit during peak Eid travel, predicted to occur on Wednesday 18 March as the Eid holiday begins on 19-24 March 2026.

“State Civil Apparatus (ASN) personnel return to offices on Tuesday 17 March, after which we anticipate a significant increase in vehicle volume,” he said.

To date, Nanang continued, his team has prepared several strategies to ease predicted traffic congestion at the western Situbondo toll exit, including vehicle screening measures.

Should vehicles accumulate, he said, they will be directed through the nearest Paiton toll exit in Probolinggo towards Situbondo.

For arterial road traffic, vehicles will be diverted via the Buduan Village three-way junction in Suboh District, leading towards the Arak-Arak Bondowoso route, coordinated with Bondowoso Police Resort.

Nanang Hendra noted that increased vehicle volume during peak mudik is the primary cause of congestion, with the western Situbondo toll exit situated only approximately 800 metres from the three-way Suboh traffic light intersection.

“To date, a traffic light at the intersection between the arterial route and the western Situbondo toll exit has not been installed, so manual traffic management is being conducted by Traffic Police personnel together with highway patrol officers,” said AKP Nanang.
