Western Intelligence: Russia Begins Sending Combat Drones and Logistics Supplies to Iran
Russia is reportedly completing the phased delivery of unmanned combat aircraft (drones), medicines, and food supplies to Iran. This step is described as Moscow’s effort to support Tehran’s military strength in facing armed confrontations with the United States (US) and Israel.
According to Western intelligence reports cited by The Financial Times, high-ranking officials from both countries began secretly discussing these deliveries just days after the first US-Israeli attack on Tehran last month. The military aid deliveries reportedly started in early March and are targeted for completion by the end of this month, Independent reported on Thursday (26/3).
Russia’s support marks a new chapter in the alliance between the two countries. Previously, Iran had been the main supplier of Shahed drones used by Russia in the invasion of Ukraine. Now, the delivery of drones from Moscow represents the first evidence of lethal aid from Russia to Iran since the war in the Middle East erupted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a strong statement regarding the relationship between the two countries. Zelensky claimed that Moscow is not only providing physical aid but also sharing intelligence data with Tehran.
Zelensky’s statement also highlighted that Gulf countries are now showing great interest in Ukraine’s experience in defending against drone attacks. Given that Moscow frequently launches hundreds of Shahed drones every night at Ukraine, Kyiv is now considered an expert in defensive warfare against such drone technology.
In response to these reports, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov did not provide a direct denial. “Many hoaxes are circulating at the moment. One thing is certain, we continue our dialogue with Iran’s leadership,” Peskov said.
