The West Sumatra Regional Police are assisting in the handling of flash floods in Solok Regency by deploying personnel and equipment to support the evacuation of residents and the clearing of disaster debris blocking road access.

West Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Djati Wiyoto Abadhy, stated in Arosuka on Tuesday that police ranks, alongside relevant agencies, have been conducting operations at the disaster site. Furthermore, a joint team has been deployed to carry out evacuations, data collection, and assistance for affected communities.

“Personnel have been deployed to assist in the handling and evacuation process of affected residents. We are also continuously monitoring the situation on the ground,” said Djema.

In this operation, the West Sumatra Regional Police have deployed approximately 300 Brimob personnel to assist with the evacuation and cleaning processes. In addition to the Brimob unit, police ranks from various directorates within the West Sumatra Regional Police and personnel from the Solok Police Station have also been deployed to the disaster site.

Joint officers are currently still managing the impacts of the flash flood, particularly the debris obstructing community access and the Solok-Padang transportation route. The West Sumatra Regional Police, together with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and other relevant parties, continue to conduct evacuations and cleaning efforts to accelerate access recovery and assist disaster-affected residents.

West Sumatra Regional Police ranks have been conducting evacuation efforts since Monday night (21/9) after flash floods hit several areas in Solok Regency.

“Alhamdulillah, today we have been able to begin cleaning, particularly through the Brimob unit,” he said.

Djati noted that disaster management is still focused on evacuating affected residents to ensure public safety. The West Sumatra Police Chief estimates that the process of repairing and clearing flash flood debris will require approximately one week, depending on field conditions.

“The most important thing right now is conducting evacuations. Hopefully, cleaning efforts can be carried out promptly,” he added.

Djati stated that, if possible, officers will establish posts around the location to support the handling and coordination process during the disaster response period.
