West Sumatra Provincial Government and Ruang Guru Train Teachers and Students on AI Usage

Padang (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra Provincial Government, in collaboration with Ruang Guru, is providing training on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to teachers and students to support the learning process in schools.

“We express our gratitude and appreciation to the Ruang Guru foundation for collaborating in the implementation of the AI Ready ASEAN Programme in West Sumatra today and for providing maximum support for the success of this event,” said the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, in Padang on Thursday.

The Governor expressed this appreciation while opening the AI literacy training for the AI Ready ASEAN Programme, which is attended by school principals, teachers, and high school and vocational school students across West Sumatra, supported by Ruang Guru and the ASEAN Foundation.

He stated that the development of artificial intelligence literacy must be approached positively by the educational sector, as these advancements can be utilised to support the learning process in a precise and responsible manner.

He noted that the implementation of AI Ready ASEAN can provide tangible benefits for schools, particularly for teachers and students, by enhancing their ability to utilise AI literacy as an integral part of the learning process.

In its implementation, students must not merely be prepared to find answers easily. Instead, students must be accustomed to understanding problems, formulating questions, seeking various possible solutions, and being accountable for the choices made, while continuing to train their critical thinking skills.

“We do not want the younger generation to merely be users of technology created by others. We want them to be able to understand technology, utilise it productively, and eventually provide innovations that benefit society. Therefore, the role of teachers and schools is highly anticipated,” he said.
