West Sumatra Province Ensures Qurban Distribution in Mentawai Reaches Target Recipients
West Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumbar) has confirmed that the 1447 Hijriyah/2026 Qurban Distribution Programme in Mentawai Islands Regency is proceeding smoothly and reaching the intended recipients.
This was stated by the Head of Sumbar’s Kesbangpol Agency, Mursalim, following a monitoring visit with the Director of Prof. HB. Saanin Psychiatric Hospital, the hospital’s Finance Section Head, and Kesbangpol officials to Mentawai Islands Regency on Saturday (30 May).
He said that in 2026, the province will distribute five sacrificial animals to Mentawai Islands Regency: four cows and one buffalo. Distribution locations include Pagai Utara, Sipora Utara, Siberut Barat, Siberut Utara, and Pagai Selatan. “Each mosque in these areas will receive one sacrificial animal,” Mursalim explained.
According to Mursalim, field monitoring confirmed all sacrificial animals were received, slaughtered according to regulations, and meat distributed to eligible communities, totalling approximately 670 bags. He added that some meat was also shared with non-Muslim communities around mosques, reflecting religious tolerance and harmony in Mentawai.
“It is impressive that the sacrificial meat is also distributed to non-Muslim communities. The religious harmony here is evident and deserves appreciation,” Mursalim said.
Sulaiman (54), a mosque official at Taqwa Tua Pejat Mosque, expressed gratitude for the Qurban Distribution Programme initiated by West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah. He stated it is highly beneficial and strengthens community bonds.
“Our community is greatly assisted by the Provincial Government’s Qurban Programme. We feel cared for despite the distance from the regional capital,” he said.
It is known that in 2026, the total sacrificial animals distributed by Pemprov Sumbar through the Qurban Programme amount to 173: 139 cows, one buffalo, and 33 goats. These animals come from contributions by Civil Servants (ASN), State-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and partners within the provincial government.
Additionally, Mentawai Islands Regency received two sacrificial animals from President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, allocated to Nurul Iman Mosque in Bukit Pamewa and Jabal Nur Mosque in Sipora Utara District.
