West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Gatot Tri Suryanta assured the smooth running of the free mudik programme ‘pulang basamo’ in 2026. He said he would oversee the journeys of the mudik travellers until they reach their destination.

‘This is a manifestation of the Police’s presence to help the public; the Police are here for the people. So we will oversee, with the first phase comprising 100 buses, and the second phase comprising 150 buses. We will have three rest stops: one in Palembang, two in Jambi, and three at the border of West Sumatra,’ Gatot told reporters at the DPR/MPR in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March 2026).

Gatot said his side would conduct health checks on bus drivers at each rest stop. Thus, he said, the drivers are fit to undertake the journey to West Sumatra, and the same applies at every departure.

‘At each rest stop, the Police ensure that all our drivers undergo health checks. So, at departure from here, their health is already robust and fit to depart, and the same applies at each departure,’ he added.

’Then, upon arrival at the destination, the mudik travellers will be greeted with a buka puasa together. He hopes Mudik Basamo 2026 will proceed safely.

‘Finally, in West Sumatra we will welcome our families and our relatives with a Bajamba meal and a shared buka puasa. Mudik Aman Keluarga Bahagia.’ he said.
