West Sumatra Police: Arteria Dahlan's Escort Officers Examined by Internal Affairs for Stopping Illegally at Sitinjau Lauik
Three personnel from the Traffic Unit of Solok City Police Resort, who were tasked with escorting the convoy of former House of Representatives member Arteria Dahlan, are currently being examined by the Professional and Security Division of Solok City Police Resort.
The three escort officers were involved in accompanying Arteria Dahlan’s group, which went viral for stopping and taking photos at the Sitinjau Lauik bend.
The Head of Traffic Enforcement of the West Sumatra Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Andis Anshori, stated that internal affairs is still conducting examinations of the three police officers who carried out the escort, and is checking the administrative completeness related to the escort performed.
He assured that if violations are proven, the three personnel could face sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations.
“Preliminarily, we are taking statements first, complete statements, the chronology of how it happened, from the journey to the destination. From the statements, we can conclude whether it warrants disciplinary action or just a reprimand,” said AKBP Andis on Monday, 13 April 2026.
The examination, continued AKBP Andis, relates to allegations of SOP violations in the escort. According to him, in every escort activity, there is a time interval where the escorted party communicates with the escorting apparatus to make a stop.
“If there is an emergency situation, should they stop, or if the vehicle breaks down, well, when that happens, communication doesn’t occur, leading to miscommunication, and they end up stopping in a place not suitable for stopping,” said Andis.
“We know Sitinjau Lauik is an extreme and risky location. If they stop in the appropriate place, it’s not a problem; the violation might be there. We can see the situation there,” he added.
He suspects there was miscommunication with the escorted party, resulting in stopping in an inappropriate place. “Taking photos in an unsuitable situation can disrupt other road users; they should prioritise the escort without disturbing other road users, unless there is traffic engineering,” he explained.
Previously, the action of the convoy of the former PDIP DPR member, Arteria Dahlan, stopping and taking selfies at the extreme Panorama 1 bend of Sitinjau Lauik in Padang City, West Sumatra, went viral and drew public attention.
In a video circulating widely on social media and sparking criticism from the public, the convoy of vehicles with police escort cars can be seen stopping right in the middle of the uphill lane known for its steep and dangerous bends.
