West Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office Names Project Supervisor as Suspect in Collapsed Bridge Corruption Case
The investigation into the alleged corruption in the construction of the Sikabu–Kayu Gadang Bridge in Lubuk Alung District, Padang Pariaman Regency, has taken a significant step forward. The West Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office has officially named a project supervisor with the initials IF as a new suspect in the case, which has caused billions of rupiah in state losses.
Head of the West Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office, Dedie Tri Wahyudi, stated that IF was named a suspect after investigators uncovered an alleged manipulation of the supervision system. This action is suspected to be the main factor that caused the bridge’s construction quality to fail to meet standards, leading to its collapse shortly after completion.
Based on the investigation, IF allegedly took illegal control of the project’s supervision work. He replaced the supervisory consultant’s personnel before the contract commenced without going through the proper addendum mechanism. This action is considered a violation of government procurement procedures for goods and services.
‘The replacement was carried out without the required addendum mechanism, thus violating procurement regulations,’ Dedie said in an official statement on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
In addition to personnel manipulation, IF is also suspected of unilaterally controlling all aspects of supervision. As a result of this deliberately weakened oversight function, the quality of the bridge work was uncontrolled. The low construction specifications caused the structure to fail prematurely and collapse, resulting in significant financial losses to the state.
Dedie emphasised that IF will be charged under the Corruption Eradication Law, which carries severe penalties. The West Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office also confirmed that the investigation will not stop with these four suspects. ‘Investigators are continuing to develop this case to uncover all parties who must be held responsible,’ Dedie concluded.
