West Sumatra Governor Welcomes Rp100.1 Trillion Budget for Sumatra Recovery
West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah has welcomed the central government’s allocation of Rp100.1 trillion for accelerating post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra. The substantial budget is scheduled to be disbursed over three years from 2026 to 2028.
Mahyeldi confirmed the funding during a meeting with the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Monday (25 May). He stated that the policy demonstrates the central government’s tangible commitment to aiding disaster-affected regions, particularly in West Sumatra.
‘Alhamdulillah, the central government has committed to prioritising the acceleration of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra. This is certainly good news for communities and regions striving to recover,’ Mahyeldi said in a statement on Tuesday (26 May 2026).
Mahyeldi emphasised the critical nature of this budgetary support, not only for repairing damaged physical infrastructure but also for ensuring social aspects through the provision of permanent housing (huntap) and other facilities.
‘The most crucial aspect is ensuring affected communities quickly receive certainty regarding infrastructure, housing, and basic services. Therefore, the West Sumatra provincial government is fully prepared to support the swift implementation of these efforts,’ he stressed.
During the meeting, Minister of Home Affairs and Task Force Chair Tito Karnavian explained that the majority of funds would be allocated through the Ministry of Public Works for infrastructure, while permanent housing development would be managed by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement.
Governor Mahyeldi also praised the establishment of this special task force as a mechanism to strengthen inter-ministerial and regional coordination. He expressed hope that the programme would proceed on time and target the real needs on the ground.
‘We in the regions are ready to collaborate and ensure all programmes are implemented effectively. May this collective effort bring blessings and accelerate the recovery of affected communities and regions,’ Mahyeldi concluded.
Accompanying the governor during the strategic meeting were several senior West Sumatra provincial officials, including Vice Governor Vasko Ruseimy, Head of Bappeda Zefnihan, Head of BMCKTR Army, and BPBD Kalaksa Era Sukma Munaf. (YH/I-1)
