West Sumatra BKSDA Evacuates Sumatran Tiger That Preyed on Livestock

A Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), estimated to be around two years old, has been evacuated after entering a trap cage in Jorong Palimbatan, Nagari Pasie Laweh, Agam, West Sumatra, on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The protected animal had previously preyed on livestock belonging to local residents, sparking community concern. The West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA Sumbar), together with relevant parties, carried out the evacuation after the tiger was successfully sedated. A team of veterinarians checked the condition of the sedated tiger. The joint team carefully transported the Sumatran tiger to a handling location, with each stage carried out in a measured manner given that the animal is a protected species whose wild population remains a focus of conservation efforts. The evacuation in Agam is part of ongoing efforts to address human-wildlife conflict.
