West Sulawesi Proposes MoU with BRIN to Strengthen Research-Based Policy
The Provincial Government of West Sulawesi has proposed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to strengthen the utilisation of research results as a basis for formulating regional development policies. West Sulawesi Governor Suhardi Duka stated that the proposal was conveyed during a meeting with BRIN officials on Friday (24/7) as part of efforts to build long-term collaboration in the fields of research, innovation, human resource development, and the utilisation of research findings. The meeting also served as a forum to discuss BRIN’s research results regarding the impact of natural radiation on public health in Mamuju Regency, as well as the formulation of policy recommendations that can be integrated into regional development programmes. “With effective communication, research results can be understood as a scientific basis to support development and improve the quality of life for the community,” said Suhardi Duka. He stated that research findings, particularly concerning natural radiation in Mamuju Regency, need to be communicated openly and in an easily understandable manner so that the public receives complete information without causing misperceptions or anxiety. Suhardi also expressed hope that cooperation with BRIN could strengthen the implementation of evidence-based policy in regional governance. Meanwhile, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria appreciated the commitment of the West Sulawesi Provincial Government in promoting research-based development. “Suhardi Duka is the first governor in Indonesia to visit BRIN directly to discuss the utilisation of research results as a basis for formulating regional development policies,” said Arif Satria. According to Arif Satria, Mamuju Regency, along with the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, has great potential as an area for research, innovation, and investment development due to its geological characteristics and natural resources.
