West Sulawesi and JICA Collaborate on Disaster Mitigation Technology Infrastructure
Synergy between international technology and regional preparedness is the key to harmonious development in West Sulawesi. Mamuju (ANTARA) - The West Sulawesi Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), discussed plans for implementing a demonstration project for an advanced seismometer system as an earthquake detection tool in the Mamuju area. “This cooperation emphasises strengthening disaster mitigation technology infrastructure to minimise the risks of earthquake impacts in areas with high seismic vulnerability,” said the Head of the Public Welfare and Social Affairs Bureau of the West Sulawesi Provincial Regional Secretariat, Murdanil, in Mamuju on Wednesday. Murdanil stated that the seismometer system demonstration project is projected to serve as a pilot model for a more responsive and accurate early warning system. Murdanil stressed the importance of social welfare aspects that begin with the community’s sense of security against disaster threats. According to him, the presence of JICA’s seismometer technology is not merely about installing equipment, but a tangible form of government service in providing protection and a sense of security for the community regarding the importance of social welfare aspects that start from the community’s sense of security against disaster threats. Meanwhile, West Sulawesi Governor Suhardi Duka stated that this step aligns with the regional development vision for 2026, which prioritises disaster resilience as the foundation for economic and social growth. The Governor emphasised that collaboration with international partners like JICA is a strategic step to make West Sulawesi a resilient province ready to face natural challenges. The West Sulawesi Provincial Government, he added, hopes that through the integration of this system, community preparedness can increase significantly. “All elements of society are expected to support the continuity of this project for collective safety and the sustainability of development in West Sulawesi,” said Suhardi Duka.
