West Semarang Becomes Target for Modern Retail Expansion
The West Semarang area is becoming a target for the development of new retail and lifestyle centres, driven by increasing trade, services, and urban investment activities in Semarang. Paradise Indonesia is entering the Semarang retail market by operating a shopping centre spanning over 65,000 square metres in the Pearl of Java area.
Surina, Director & CFO of Paradise Indonesia, stated that Semarang was selected due to its continuous economic growth and expanding urban market. She noted that the public’s demand for modern lifestyle destinations is a primary reason for the company’s portfolio expansion into the city. The development of the 23 Semarang Shopping Center is aimed at becoming a new driver of economic activity in West Semarang.
“We chose Semarang as one of the cities with the most promising economic growth, urban transformation, and market potential in Indonesia today,” Surina said in an official statement on Saturday.
According to data from BPS Semarang cited by the company, the economy of Semarang grew by 6.49% in 2025. This growth was supported by sectors including trade, construction, manufacturing, and urban area investment.
The presence of this shopping centre is targeted to provide economic impacts for the region, ranging from the creation of new jobs and the strengthening of the trade and services sectors to supporting local SMEs and increasing economic activity around the Pearl of Java area.
23 Semarang Shopping Center is being developed as a mixed-use lifestyle retail destination. The area combines shopping, culinary, family entertainment, community spaces, a food court, and open public spaces. Regarding tenants, the shopping centre will feature several national and international brands. Some of these include first-time outlets in Semarang, such as Pop Mart, Chagee, HOKA, Under Armour, Salomon, and ChaTraMue. Additionally, it will host Nike, Adidas, Columbia, Timezone, and the Eateria food court, which is noted as part of the largest flagship store in Central Java.
As the area manager, Cornerstone Indonesia stated that 23 Semarang Shopping Center will be positioned as a long-term commercial destination. “We present 23 Semarang not merely as a shopping centre, but as a lifestyle sanctuary designed to provide a more open, warm spatial experience that is connected to nature and the community,” said Dian Widiyanti from Cornerstone Indonesia.
The shopping centre also features an open area named Downtown Park, designed as a green public space within the complex. This area is part of ‘The Oasis of Semarang’ concept, which integrates retail, entertainment, culinary, and community functions.
23 Semarang Shopping Center is being developed by PT Swarna Kanaka Parigraha, a subsidiary of PT Indonesian Paradise Property Tbk, which is a joint venture between Paradise Indonesia and Bina Nusantara.
