West Papua Recovers IDR 29 Billion, Refers 24 Cases to Law Enforcement

The West Papua Inspectorate has handed over 24 unresolved cases of budget management findings to law enforcement after the responsible parties failed to return funds to the regional treasury within the 60-day deadline. Inspector Erwin Priyadi Hamonangan Saragih stated that 52 of the 76 findings were resolved through the signing of absolute responsibility letters, resulting in the recovery of approximately IDR 29 billion for the regional treasury. Meanwhile, West Papua House of Representatives member Imam Muslih called on the provincial government to improve its supervisory system for budget management, from planning to execution. He noted that the findings by the Audit Board of Indonesia follow a recurring pattern, and stressed that internal controls and administrative verification must be strengthened, particularly in managing employee expenditure, goods and services, official travel, grants, social assistance, and contracts, to prevent similar issues in the future.
