West Lombok Residents Can Borrow Bupati's Official Car for Traditional Wedding Processions
Couples from West Lombok can now use the Bupati’s official car for the nyongkolan procession free of charge. The policy was introduced on Sunday (14/6/2026). West Lombok Bupati Lalu Ahmad Zaini stated that the official car with registration plate DR 1 can be borrowed on the condition that the groom is a native resident of West Lombok, proven by a Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP) identity card. “Those who wish to borrow it can submit a request; the requirement is that the groom’s KTP must be from West Lombok,” he said on Friday (12/6/2026). Zaini explained the policy was adopted because the Toyota Camry sedan is rarely used. He more frequently uses a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) for fieldwork. “I saw that the car was never used, because I actually only need one. So it’s good to give it to the community for nyongkolan,” he said. The Bupati also described the policy as a form of support from the West Lombok Regency Government in preserving the Sasak tribe’s nyongkolan culture. “This is a form of government concern for cultural preservation and to honour newlyweds,” he clarified. He added that if multiple couples apply for the same date, priority will be given to the less privileged couple. The Head of the West Lombok Communication and Informatics Agency, Rizky Bani Adam, explained that residents must first fill in their details via a provided link. Afterwards, the applicant must prepare a request letter acknowledged by the local hamlet head. The letter is then submitted to the Bupati’s office, addressed to the Regional Secretary. Rizky emphasised that the entire borrowing process is free of charge. The Regency Government will also provide a personal driver for the community’s nyongkolan procession.
