West Lombok Regent's Sacrificial Cow from Bribery Proceeds Must Be Returned: PBNU
PBNU Chairman Ahmad Fahrur Rozi (Gus Fahrur) has expressed concern over the bribery case involving West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ), in which one of the alleged bribes was a cow for the sacrificial ritual. He stated that the proceeds of bribery must not be used for worship. “If it is true that the cow was a gift from a company as a sacrificial animal in the context of a bribe, this is of course very concerning. Bribery is a haram act and must not be wrapped in worship,” Gus Fahrur told reporters on Friday (24/7/2026).
Nevertheless, Gus Fahrur said he respects the principle of presumption of innocence while awaiting the evidence in the legal process ensnaring the West Lombok Regent. However, if it is proven that the sacrificial cow was the result of a bribe, Gus Fahrur urged Lalu Ahmad Zaini to repent. “If it is proven (the sacrificial cow) originated from a bribe, then he must repent and return the rights according to legal provisions,” he said.
As is known, the KPK suspects West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ) of receiving bribes in the form of money and goods. The total value is Rp 1.6 billion. “In addition to the alleged conflict of interest in the procurement of goods and services for projects at the PUPRPKP Office and other agencies, LAZ is also suspected of receiving a sum of money, goods, or facilities from Alvonsus Gani as the President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument. PT MSI is a vendor for PT AMGM, which is the regional drinking water company in West Lombok,” said Acting KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein during a press conference at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
He stated that PT MSI secured a clean water management project in West Lombok worth Rp 27.1 billion. PT MSI then routinely gave bribes to Lalu Ahmad Zaini. The details are as follows: one Toyota Alphard car worth Rp 1.2 billion; one pair of Hermes shoes worth Rp 19 million; travel accommodation for the LOP-JKT route (the Regent frequently travelled the Lombok-Jakarta round trip); cash amounting to at least Rp 380 million; one iPhone 17 Pro mobile phone worth Rp 26 million; and one sacrificial cow worth Rp 17 million.
The KPK has named three people as suspects in this case. They are: Lalu Ahmad Zaini as the West Lombok Regent; Sudirman as the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang Lombok Barat (PT AMGM); and Alvonsus Gani as the President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument (PT MSI).
