West Lombok Regent Allegedly Used Rp2.25 Billion in Corruption Proceeds to Buy Hospital Shares

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini allegedly used Rp2.25 billion in corruption proceeds to buy shares in the SSM Hospital. Acting KPK Director of Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein explained that Regent LAZ is suspected of carrying out the act together with the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (Perseroda), Sudirman. “LAZ and SUD also placed Rp2.25 billion in the SSM Hospital, a hospital in West Lombok, under the guise of purchasing shares or what was later termed the regent’s operational funds,” Taufik said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7). When asked whether the SSM Hospital is owned by Regent LAZ or his family, Taufik said the KPK has only discovered evidence of meetings between the regional head and the hospital’s management. “The team has not found that the hospital is controlled or owned by the suspect LAZ, but there are indications, and the team has evidence in electronic documents showing meetings between the regent and the hospital,” he said. He added that the KPK will continue to investigate the flow and source of the money, as well as the involvement of other parties in the case. During the sting operation, the KPK arrested 20 people in West Nusa Tenggara and Jakarta, bringing eight of them to the KPK’s Red and White Building for intensive questioning. On 21 July 2026, the KPK named Lalu Ahmad Zaini and PT Air Minum Giri Menang President Director Sudirman as suspects in a case of alleged conflict of interest in the procurement of goods and services. The anti-corruption agency also named the two, along with PT Meconel Sistim Instrument President Director Alvonsus Gani, as suspects in an alleged bribery case within the West Lombok Regency Government.
