West Lombok DPRD Demands Total Overhaul of PT AMGM After Director Named in Corruption Case
Commission II of the West Lombok Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is urging the West Lombok Regency Government to immediately conduct a thorough evaluation of the management of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (AMGM). The call comes after a suspected corruption case ensnared inactive Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ) and the inactive President Director of PT AMGM, Sudirman.
West Lombok DPRD Commission II member Munawir Haris assessed that a complete overhaul within the regionally owned enterprise (BUMD) has become an urgent necessity. According to him, several officials at PT AMGM have occupied strategic positions not because of competence, but due to their closeness to Sudirman or LAZ.
“In my opinion, PT AMGM really needs a total overhaul. It needs to be evaluated thoroughly by the Vice Regent and Mayor as shareholders,” he said on Tuesday (28/7/2026).
Munawir stated that the unresolved water supply issues in West Lombok demonstrate the need to evaluate the competence of PT AMGM’s ranks. He assessed that the regional company has not been able to provide a solution to these problems.
The chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction even criticised Sudirman’s performance during his tenure as President Director of PT AMGM, which he deemed unsatisfactory. He highlighted that a pipeline project financed through a capital injection of Rp 118 billion from the West Lombok Regency Government had not run optimally.
“He failed this project. The proof is there are many leaks. A capital injection of Rp 5 billion was budgeted last year in 2025 for a new network. Not to mention other issues,” he criticised.
Beyond evaluating the existing management, Munawir asked the West Lombok Regency Government together with the Mataram City Government to be more selective in determining the future leadership of PT AMGM. He stated that the president director must be chosen based on capacity and understanding of drinking water company governance, not other considerations.
“The position of president director needs to be selective, because it must be someone who truly understands the issues of PT AMGM. This water problem will never be resolved otherwise,” he said.
Munawir also reminded that the selection process for the next PT AMGM president director must be free from the political interests of regional heads. He assessed that the previous condition created a public perception that the President Director of PT AMGM acted like a shadow vice regent.
“As a company, the first aspect must be professionalism. We cannot deny that the previous president director attended every event and handled every matter; he attended the Regent’s party events, he represented the Regent at KONI matters. The public cannot be blamed for seeing him as a shadow vice regent,” he remarked.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) previously conducted a sting operation (OTT) against LAZ at his official residence on Monday (20/7/2026). During the operation, investigators detained 19 people.
After intensive examination, the KPK named three suspects: LAZ, President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang Sudirman, and President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument Alvonsus Gani.
