West Lombok Deputy Regent Vows to Continue Programmes of Corruption Suspect Regent
West Lombok Deputy Regent Nurul Adha has confirmed he will continue the programmes and development plans drawn up by Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ). LAZ is currently the non-active Regent of West Lombok after being caught in a sting operation and named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Adha was appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs as the Acting Regent of West Lombok. He stressed that the appointment would not alter the development direction designed together with LAZ during their leadership of West Lombok. “I will continue working to carry on his good work. The Regent’s good plans, I will continue,” Adha said on Wednesday (22/7/2026).
According to Adha, one of the priority programmes to be continued is the development of the Gunungsari area, which borders Mataram City. He is also seeking to revitalise Senggigi tourism. “His plan to revive Senggigi, I will continue,” he added. Additionally, Adha confirmed he would continue other ongoing programmes, such as Car Free Night (CFN) and Car Free Day (CFD) activities.
On the other hand, Adha admitted he was devastated by the KPK’s naming of LAZ as a corruption suspect. He said that from the start, he and LAZ had planned to complete their term until the end of the period. “Indeed, Mr Regent and I planned to carry out this term and had absolutely no thought of the case from two days ago. I never expected this to happen,” he added.
Adha assessed that the incident befalling LAZ was both a disaster and a test for the West Lombok Regency Government. He expressed hope that the case would be the last to occur in the region. “However you look at it, this is a disaster. Some might think I would be happy, but that is not the case. It must not happen again,” Adha said.
Previously, Nurul Adha was directly appointed to temporarily lead West Lombok Regency after Regent LAZ was caught in a KPK sting operation on Monday (20/7). The appointment was based on a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs, or a radiogram, issued on Tuesday (21/7). The KPK revealed that LAZ allegedly pre-arranged government projects involving the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (PT AMGM), Sudirman. The two are suspected of conspiring to condition projects using other companies as a front to avoid detection of a conflict of interest. From this practice, LAZ allegedly received money, goods, and facilities worth IDR 12.4 billion.
