West Lampung strengthens coordination to accelerate clean energy transition
Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The West Lampung Regency Government is strengthening coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to accelerate a clean energy transition based on local potential.
“We are seeking central government support to accelerate a clean energy transition based on local potential, particularly geothermal energy and micro-hydro power plants (PLTMH),” West Lampung Regent Parosil Mabsus said when contacted from Bandarlampung on Thursday.
He said West Lampung was a renewable energy hub, with resources in areas including Sekincau, Suoh and Lake Ranau.
“We want development to be about more than investment: it must also deliver tangible benefits, protect the environment and take account of community aspirations,” he said.
He said the regency government had put forward three priority agendas for renewable energy management. The main focus is on optimising geothermal potential in Sekincau, Suoh and Lombok Seminung (Lake Ranau).
“The other priorities are improving governance of operating micro-hydro plants and those undergoing licensing, as well as ensuring the continuation of the Preliminary Survey and Exploration Assignment (PSPE) for the geothermal working area (WKP) held by PT Star Energy,” he said.
Regarding PT Star Energy’s application to extend its PSPE, the West Lampung administration is committed to providing full support until a Geothermal Permit (IPB) is issued.
“This commitment will be accompanied by regular, strict oversight within the regional government’s authority. These proactive steps are expected to strengthen cooperation between central and regional governments and investors, accelerating the national energy mix transition in an environmentally friendly way while spurring local economic growth,” he said.
