West Kalimantan Tour Guides Now Accept Tips via QRIS GoPay Merchant
Hundreds of tour guides in West Kalimantan can now receive tips digitally via QRIS integrated into the GoPay Merchant app. This innovation stems from a collaboration between GoPay and the Indonesian Tour Guides Association (HPI) West Kalimantan. The partnership enables tourists to provide service fees to tour guides in a cashless manner. The initiative arrives amid growing QRIS usage in West Kalimantan, extending beyond retail and SMEs to the tourism sector. West Kalimantan’s economy grew by 5.59% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025. This condition has also boosted societal comfort, including for domestic and international tourists, in using non-cash payments. “Access to financial services must be inclusive for all, including daily workers like tour guides. With QRIS from GoPay Merchant, they can more easily receive tips, allowing them to directly benefit from an inclusive digital payment ecosystem,” stated Haryanto in a press release on Friday (3/4/2026). Meanwhile, Chairman of the HPI West Kalimantan Chapter, Fahroolyadi, said the implementation of QRIS via GoPay Merchant brings significant changes to the process of receiving service fees for tour guides. “Before using GoPay Merchant, payments were often received up to 24 hours later, with a complicated disbursement process. For me, who usually serves Malaysian tourists visiting West Kalimantan, this was certainly an obstacle,” he explained. “Now, the payment process is just scanning the QRIS, which is easier and the money is received immediately,” Fahroolyadi added. In addition to speeding up the payment process, the use of the GoPay Merchant app is also seen as helping tour guides manage their income more neatly and structured. The ease of the app registration process further supports technology adoption among tour guides. The resulting ecosystem is expected to become increasingly inclusive and modern, while still providing meaningful experiences for tourists.
