West Kalimantan Police Intensify Patrols and Cooling Operations Against Forest Fires in Kubu Raya
The Samapta Directorate SAR team of the West Kalimantan Regional Police has intensified efforts to prevent forest and land fires through routine patrols, dousing and cooling operations in vulnerable areas, particularly in Kubu Raya Regency.
The measures are focused on Jalan Ayani 3, Limbung Village, Sungai Raya District. Officers on the ground are conducting sweeps to ensure there are no hidden hotspots that could potentially flare up again and threaten residential areas.
Head of Public Relations of the West Kalimantan Police, Senior Commissioner Bambang Suharyono, explained that during the patrol, personnel found several areas that still contained embers beneath the land surface. Officers immediately carried out thorough extinguishing and cooling measures.
“This activity is to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. We are sweeping areas that previously had the potential to burn while monitoring the surrounding environment so that the fire does not spread to residential areas,” said Bambang in Pontianak on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
Bambang stressed that the success of forest and land fire prevention depends heavily on the awareness and cooperation of all elements of society, especially those living in fire-prone zones. Given the dry weather conditions that increase the risk of fire, the public is urged not to engage in activities that could spark flames.
“We appeal to the public to work together to protect the environment and to report immediately if they find hotspots or see any indications of fire,” he added.
The West Kalimantan Police also reminded the public of the importance of prompt reporting so that action can be taken before the fire spreads. Residents can contact the nearest police station or the West Kalimantan Police Call Centre 110 for rapid follow-up by officers in the field.
Going forward, the West Kalimantan Police, together with relevant agencies, is committed to continuously improving preparedness and patrol frequency in vulnerable areas to reduce the risk of forest and land fires and to protect the ecosystem and the safety of residents.
