West Kalimantan Government Strengthens Regional Insurance to Protect Assets and Boost Economy
The West Kalimantan Provincial Government has affirmed its commitment to strengthening the role of the regional-owned insurance company as a crucial instrument for supporting sustainable development and protecting government assets. Governor Ria Norsan stated that the provincial government fully supports the management of PT Asuransi Bangun Askrida in enhancing its competitiveness within the national insurance industry.
Speaking after the company’s annual meeting in Jakarta, Norsan highlighted that implementing Good Corporate Governance principles is the main foundation for maintaining shareholder trust and increasing public confidence in the company’s services. He noted that the existence of a regional insurance firm is strategic, as it not only serves the needs of the community and businesses but also provides protection for government assets, whose value continues to rise alongside infrastructure development and public service expansion.
To address increasingly diverse community needs, the provincial government is encouraging PT Askrida to continuously develop product innovations. This expansion of services is considered vital for broadening market penetration and enhancing the company’s contribution to the regional economy. Furthermore, Norsan stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between PT Askrida, regional apparatus organisations, and other Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) to optimise asset protection and support priority development programmes.
This synergy is deemed increasingly critical as the value of local government assets—including public service buildings, roads, bridges, and health facilities—continues to grow and requires comprehensive risk protection. PT Asuransi Bangun Askrida, a general insurance company established in 1989 with shareholders including pension funds, provincial governments, and regional development banks, provides various services such as motor vehicle, fire, engineering, personal accident, and health insurance.
Amid rising needs for risk mitigation in regional development, the company’s role is considered strategic not only for ensuring the sustainability of government assets and investments but also for creating a sense of security for business actors and the public. For West Kalimantan, strengthening PT Askrida is part of a broader effort to build a more resilient development ecosystem, with the expectation that professional governance, continuous service innovation, and close synergy with local government will make the company a strategic partner in supporting economic resilience in the future.
