West Java's Waste Solution and 40 MW Power Plant: Legoknangka TPPAS Construction Begins
Construction of the Legoknangka Waste Processing and Final Treatment Facility (TPPAS) in Bandung Regency has officially begun. The project, which embraces the concept of processing waste into electrical energy, is projected to become a permanent solution to the waste problem in Greater Bandung, whilst strengthening the clean energy supply in West Java.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi assessed that the commencement of the TPPAS Legoknangka construction is evidence of the provincial government’s long-term success in realising a project that has been planned since previous leadership periods. According to Dedi, the project has now entered a tangible phase after all regulatory, investment and business scheme aspects were successfully resolved.
Dedi is confident that the existence of TPPAS Legoknangka will not only solve the waste problem but also drive the creation of a more modern and sustainable environmental management system. He is optimistic that West Java will develop into the largest electricity-producing province in Indonesia, supported by various energy sources ranging from dams, geothermal and solar power to waste-based power plants.
Looking ahead, the concept of processing waste into energy will be expanded to other areas such as Bogor Raya, Depok, Bekasi and the Cirebon region, which also face large-scale waste problems. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung stated that TPPAS Legoknangka is the result of cooperation between a national private company and a Japanese partner. He believes the facility will reduce waste accumulation whilst producing sustainable new renewable energy, leading to a better environmental impact and improved public health.
