The West Java Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (KPP) has strongly condemned the alleged confinement and severe abuse suffered by a woman with the initials YTR over a period of three years. The case is seen as a reminder that the protection of women must be carried out more responsively and involve all elements of society. Chairwoman of the West Java Provincial KPP, Siti Muntamah, asserted that the perpetrator’s actions were inhumane and must be met with a punishment commensurate with the applicable legal provisions. “We strongly condemn the perpetrator’s brutality. What the perpetrator did was inhumane, and the victim must obtain justice for her rights. Alhamdulillah, the perpetrator has been arrested,” said Siti Muntamah in Bandung on Wednesday (24/6/2026). According to her, the protection of women cannot be viewed merely as a domestic issue. On the contrary, efforts to protect women are a shared responsibility involving the government, families, the surrounding environment, and the wider community. Therefore, the West Java KPP is encouraging increased public awareness to be more sensitive to the potential for violence occurring in their surroundings. The courage to report and social awareness are considered important factors in preventing similar cases from happening. Siti stated that her party fully supports the ongoing legal process and hopes that law enforcement officials can carry out their duties professionally to deliver justice for the victim. “Protection for women is part of the rights of citizens that must be guaranteed by the state, especially for vulnerable groups who require special protection,” she said. The West Java KPP reminded that West Java already has a legal umbrella through Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2023 concerning Women’s Empowerment and Protection. However, the implementation of this regulation is still considered to need continuous strengthening so that it can provide swift and appropriate protection for women experiencing threats or violence. In addition, the West Java KPP is pushing for more massive education for women and families regarding women’s rights, early detection of violence, and the available reporting mechanisms. The presence of responsive services, including safe houses, is also deemed an urgent need. According to the West Java KPP, these facilities are important for providing temporary protection for women who are victims of violence or are in vulnerable situations. “We hope the Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning (DP3AKB) will be more responsive and prompt in providing protection to women in need. The presence of safe houses is very important to provide a sense of security for victims,” she said. Furthermore, the West Java KPP is committed to overseeing the implementation of women’s protection policies through consolidation with female parliamentarians at the provincial and district/city levels. The KPP will also supervise areas that do not yet have specific regulations related to women’s protection. According to Siti, the existence of strong regulations is an important foundation in efforts to prevent violence as well as protect women’s rights. “We want to ensure that all areas in West Java have adequate legal instruments to protect women. The protection of women must not stop as a commitment on paper, but must truly be felt by the community,” she said. Through synergy between the government, legislature, law enforcement officials, and the community, the West Java KPP hopes to create a safer, fairer, and more women-friendly environment. The KPP also invites women not to hesitate to report any form of violence they experience so they can immediately obtain the necessary protection and assistance.
