Provinsi Jawa Barat (West Java) has won the prestigious ‘Most Promising Muslim-Friendly Region of The Year’ award. The award is given to regions within Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries that show the most promising development in building an international-standard Muslim-friendly tourism ecosystem. This achievement was attained through a series of assessments, including the availability of Muslim-friendly services and facilities, as well as government support for the development of Muslim-friendly tourism. The assessment also covered the readiness of the tourism industry (hotels, restaurants, destinations, and businesses), promotion to the Muslim traveller market, and innovative programmes related to tourism development. The award was received by the Head of the West Java Tourism and Culture Office, Iendra Sofyan, at the Halal In Travel - Global Summit 2026 in Singapore. On the occasion, Iendra expressed gratitude to tourism business players, the people of West Java, the Governor of West Java, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, and CrescentRating (the event initiator). ‘This award is dedicated to all tourists who come to West Java. This award also serves as motivation to improve and develop Muslim tourism in West Java, and of course to support the national assessment. Please come to West Java Province. Thank you very much,’ he said in a written statement on Thursday (25/6/2026). He made the statement after receiving the award at the Halal In Travel - Global Summit 2026 in Singapore on Thursday (18/6). The award received by West Java falls under the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) Awards category. This category is based on the GMTI scores from Mastercard-CrescentRating (the GMTI initiator) and includes awards for top destinations, Muslim-friendly cities, sustainable destinations, and Muslim women-friendly destinations. In addition, there were three other award categories at the Halal In Travel - Global Summit 2026: the Muslim-friendly Service Provider Awards, the HalalTrip Travelers Choice Awards, and the Halal Travel Personalities of The Year.
