West Java Urged to Immediately Establish Integrated Services for Women and Children
Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi has urged West Java to immediately establish an Integrated Service for Women and Children, making it easier for victims of violence to report cases. “This mechanism has been piloted in DKI Jakarta and has demonstrated good practices that can be replicated in other regions. I believe West Java has a strong foundation to develop this integrated service model,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, together with seven other ministries and agencies, is currently piloting an integrated service mechanism based on one-stop services for handling cases of violence, as mandated by Law Number 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes and Government Regulation Number 98 of 2024. DKI Jakarta serves as the first pilot for the integrated service for women and children. The essence of the integrated service is to bring services to the victim, rather than requiring the victim to move from one service to another, so that victims of violence can be handled swiftly. Data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (Simfoni PPA) records West Java as the province with the highest number of recorded child victims, totalling 2,431 children out of 23,043 child victims nationwide. “This figure does not solely indicate a high number of violence cases, but also reflects a growing public awareness and courage to speak out and report the violence they experience,” said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi. She stressed the importance of strengthening synergy between the government, law enforcement officials, and various service providers to enhance the protection system for women and children in West Java. This strengthened collaboration is necessary to ensure that the increased public courage in reporting cases of violence is met with integrated services, victim-centred handling, and broader access to protection and justice for women and children.
