West Java to Cover Medical Costs and Provide Compensation for Train Accident Victims in Bekasi
Bandung (ANTARA) - The West Java Provincial Government has assured that it will cover all medical treatment costs for the injured victims and provide death benefits to the heirs of those killed in the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station.
This swift action follows the fatal incident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line on Monday (27/4) evening, which, according to the latest data as of Tuesday afternoon, resulted in 15 deaths and 76 injuries.
“The West Java Provincial Government will cover all hospital treatment costs for all victims being treated. We will provide compensation of Rp50 million each for those who died,” said West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi at the Pakuan Building in Bandung on Tuesday.
The man familiarly known as KDM emphasised that this policy represents the government’s presence and direct responsibility towards citizens afflicted by the disaster.
In addition to material guarantees, he conveyed deep condolences to the KRL users on the Jakarta-Bekasi route.
“I hope this incident becomes the last train accident,” he said while inviting the people of West Java to pray for strength and patience for the victims’ families.
Based on the latest compiled data, the accident began when the KRL stopped at Bekasi Timur Station, and shortly afterwards, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Jakarta-Surabaya route arrived on the same track and collided with the ill-fated KRL Commuter Line, causing dozens of fatalities and injuries.
Currently, the West Java Provincial Government continues to coordinate with hospitals and relevant authorities to ensure all medical handling proceeds optimally without cost obstacles for the victims’ families.
