West Java Targets New Investment from Malaysia Through Six Strategic Projects
BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com - The West Java Provincial Government is leveraging the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) ASEAN 2026 to attract more investment from Malaysia. The provincial administration is offering six strategic projects to investors from Malaysia and other ASEAN countries, covering aerospace, industrial estates, the creative economy, energy, transportation, and vocational education.
West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan stated that West Java remains one of the largest investment destinations in Indonesia. “I am confident this event can further enhance the cooperation between the Selangor Government and the West Java Provincial Government,” Erwan said during the opening of SIBS ASEAN 2026 at the Pullman Hotel Bandung on Thursday (9/7/2026).
Erwan noted that over the past five years, the value of Malaysian investment in West Java reached Rp 47 trillion, making Malaysia one of the largest investors in the province. Malaysia is also a key trading partner for West Java, ranking among the top 10 export destinations with a trade surplus of 1.1 billion US dollars. “This underscores the close relationship in the trade sector between Malaysia and West Java, particularly Selangor,” Erwan added.
Beyond trade and investment, Malaysia also makes a significant contribution to the tourism sector, with Malaysian tourists accounting for approximately 12.5 percent of total foreign tourist visits to West Java. Meanwhile, the Selangor State Government is using the SIBS ASEAN 2026 to promote medical tourism to Indonesians. Fourteen exhibitors from hospitals, healthcare services, wellness, hotels, and resorts are offering various health services, ranging from health screenings, cardiac care, cancer treatment, fertility, and rehabilitation to integrated wellness programmes. “Indonesia is one of the main markets for Selangor’s medical tourism. Geographical proximity, ease of access, and cultural similarities make Selangor an ideal choice for Indonesians,” a representative stated.
