West Java talks with Rotterdam port
BANDUNG: West Java officials have announced plans to cooperate with the Rotterdam Municipal Port Management in the Netherlands to improve the Cirebon port's service with the aim of attracting businessmen and their commerce.
West Java authorities held talks Thursday with a senior consultant from the Rotterdam port, Kees Westrate, in the provincial capital of Bandung, according to administration spokesman Chandra Maya.
Chandra was quoted by Antara as saying that now the port is mostly used for the uploading of ships carrying imported goods, while local businessmen seldom use it to ship their products.
Eighty percent of the port's activities involve the uploading of ships carrying imported goods, he said.
The province hopes that, in the future, exporters from across West and Central Java will use the port as a point from which to ship their products. -- JP
