West Java takes over management of collapsed bridge in Pangandaran

The West Java Provincial Government has officially taken over the management of the suspension bridge in Margacinta Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency, after the infrastructure sagged shortly after its inauguration on Sunday (30/8).

Speaking in Bandung on Thursday, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyable stated that the provincial government will construct a permanent bridge in 2027 to replace the unfortunate suspension bridge, aiming to support inter-regional connectivity and the mobility of four-wheeled vehicles that underpin the local economy.

He explained that the takeover of this project was undertaken due to the limited Regional Budget (APBD) allocations available to the Pangandaran Regency Government.

“We will immediately build a permanent bridge so that it can be used by many people and cars, and can transport agricultural, livestock, fishery, and marine products,” said Dedi.

Nevertheless, he continued, provincial government intervention was deemed urgent to ensure that food commodities and community activities are not isolated. He also cautioned that the permanent facility to be built must not be misused for dangerous activities, such as illegal racing.

Previously, the unfortunate incident occurred when the Margacinta Village suspension bridge suddenly collapsed on Sunday (30/8) at 16:00 WIB.

The incident took place shortly after the inauguration ceremony, while the Regent of Pangandaran, Citra Pitriyami, along with dozens of residents, were on the bridge span.
