West Java SPMB Phase 1 Closes, Phase 2 Still Open for Unplaced Students
The West Java Provincial Government has officially closed Phase 1 of the New Student Admission System (SPMB), with hundreds of thousands of prospective students having been placed in their chosen schools. For those who were successful, the next stage is re-registration at the end of June, whilst prospective students who have not yet been placed still have an opportunity through SPMB Phase 2.
Head of the West Java Education Office, Purwanto, stated that the entire SPMB process this year was conducted with the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability, whilst optimising available school quotas to ensure every child’s right to education is fulfilled.
“We appreciate the high level of public enthusiasm in the implementation of SPMB Phase 1. For prospective new students who have not been placed, there is no need to worry because the opportunity remains open through SPMB Phase 2, so that all prospective students still have a chance to receive educational services,” Purwanto said in a written statement on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
According to him, prospective new students who have been placed in Phase 1 are required to re-register at their destination schools on 26 and 29 June 2026. Meanwhile, SPMB Phase 2 will be open on 30 June, as well as 1, 2, 3, and 6 July 2026. This phase serves as a follow-up opportunity for prospective students who did not secure a school during the first selection.
Amid the high number of applicants, the West Java Provincial Government is also strengthening cooperation with private schools. This step was taken because the capacity of state schools is unable to accommodate all graduates of junior high schools and madrasah tsanawiyah in West Java.
“Our commitment is to oversee this entire process openly. Every educational unit has been prepared to provide complete and transparent information to parents and prospective students,” he said.
One parent, Tuti Ningsih, expressed gratitude that her daughter, Nayla Dwi Alifah, was successfully accepted at SMK Negeri 3 Bandung. Tuti said she was able to monitor the selection results regularly and see her daughter’s ranking to pass into the intended school.
“Alhamdulillah, my child has been placed at SMKN 3 Bandung. During the process, we could monitor the selection results regularly and everything went smoothly. I hope my child can study with enthusiasm and achieve success at her chosen school,” she said.
Nayla also admitted she was relieved and happy to be accepted at her dream school after initially feeling anxious whilst waiting for the selection results. “I am very grateful to be placed at the school I chose. At first, I was worried while waiting for the results, but finally I was placed at SMKN 3 Bandung. Alhamdulillah, I am ready to study harder at my chosen school,” she said.
