The West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov Jabar) is preparing strategic measures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus and return journey. One of these measures includes regulating the operation of traditional transport on arterial routes that frequently cause congestion.

As a replacement for these restrictions, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has ensured that Pemdaprov Jabar has prepared compensation for drivers of traditional transport affected by the measures. The regulation includes vehicles such as horse-drawn carts, pedicabs, and public minibuses at several congestion-prone points.

“Areas such as Padalarang (West Bandung), which were not previously included, we have now added. This also includes congestion points such as Garut. Overall across West Java, there are approximately 5,000 recipients receiving this compensation,” said Dedi Mulyadi in a written statement on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

Each horse-cart driver, pedicab operator, and minibus driver registered will receive 1.4 million rupiah. This amount represents an accumulation of daily compensation of 200,000 rupiah during the operational restriction period.

Dedi Mulyadi explained that this year’s scheme differs from previous years, which focused only on one week before and after Eid. Distribution is now adjusted according to population movement patterns.

“The funds have all been transferred. Later there will be disbursements, partly released before Eid, and partly after Eid when the tourism sector is busy,” he explained.

Pemdaprov Jabar has also set strict conditions for compensation recipients: they must not operate on main exodus routes during the restriction period. Violations of this rule will be evaluated.

“If there are still those who ‘misbehave’ and operate on prohibited routes, next year we will call them in for evaluation,” added Dedi Mulyadi.

Furthermore, Dedi Mulyadi has ensured the readiness of exodus infrastructure in West Java, including the condition of provincial roads and street lighting, which have been deemed adequate.

“Provincial roads are in good condition and street lighting is also safe,” he said.

On the same occasion, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi appreciated the measures taken by Pemdaprov Jabar. He considers this compensation programme capable of helping smooth traffic flow whilst providing protection for traditional transport drivers.

“This programme is very good because it helps field officers facilitate traffic flow, makes travellers comfortable, and ensures traditional transport drivers can rest whilst still receiving assistance. We very much appreciate Governor Dedi Mulyadi,” praised Dudy.

He also hopes this policy can serve as an example for other regions, with adjustments according to each area’s budgetary capacity.
