West Java Regional Council Supports Waste Processing Machine Procurement for Every Sub-district
Bandung - The Chairman of the West Java Regional Council (DPRD), Buky Wibawa, supports the procurement of waste processing machines in every sub-district of Bandung City as a long-term solution to address the city’s ongoing waste management issues. According to Buky, this programme is part of the West Java Provincial Government’s strategic plan to reduce Bandung’s dependence on the Sarimukti Landfill, which is facing increasingly limited capacity.
“I have spoken with Governor Dedi Mulyadi, and the West Java Provincial Government will assist in the procurement of waste processing machines for each sub-district—one machine per sub-district. The waste will then be processed into briquettes that can be utilised,” Buky stated in a briefing received in Bandung on Friday.
He explained that the processed waste will be converted into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), an alternative fuel in the form of briquettes that can be used by the industrial sector. “This actually serves as an alternative to incinerator machines, which are prohibited by the Ministry of Environment. These machines do not burn the waste; instead, it is directly pressed into briquettes for subsequent use,” he added.
Furthermore, Buky revealed that the West Java Provincial Government is currently finalising the plan, including budget requirements and site readiness. In addition to equipment procurement, Buky noted that the government must ensure the availability of approximately 100 square metres of land for each waste processing facility to be constructed. “Discussions are also ongoing regarding the construction of the facilities; we must ensure that once the land and equipment are available, there are no obstacles to the construction of the sites,” he said.
