A member of the West Java Regional Council, Iwan Koswara, has commended the decision by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) for the West Java Provincial Government to take over the organisation of the 2027 West Java Provincial Level Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ). This policy is viewed as a solution to ensure that provincial-level religious agendas continue to run optimally amidst the limited fiscal capacity of Garut Regency, the intended host.

According to Iwan, the decision demonstrates the West Java Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring that the MTQ implementation is not disrupted by budgetary issues. He noted that the MTQ is not merely a competition for Quranic recitation, but also serves as a momentum to strengthen Islamic propagation, build the character of the younger generation, and strengthen the brotherhood of the West Java community.

“The Governor’s swift action deserves appreciation. The MTQ is a strategic agenda that holds religious, educational, and cultural value. Therefore, its implementation must be well-maintained,” said Iwan on Sunday (2/8/2026).

Previously, KDM stated that the West Java Provincial Government would take over the 2027 MTQ organisation after considering the fiscal limitations of the Garut Regency Government. Under this scheme, the financial burden will no longer be borne entirely by the local regional government, allowing the event to be conducted more effectively.

KDM also revealed several changes to the event’s concept. The opening ceremony of the 2027 MTQ is planned to be held at Gedung Sate in Bandung, while the closing ceremony will take place at the Al Jabbar Grand Mosque.

“So, the opening will be at Gedung Sate and the closing at Al Jabbar,” said KDM on Sunday (2/8/2026).

Iwan expressed hope that next year’s MTQ would be grand, high-quality, and provide a positive impact on the development of Quranic reciters (qari and qariah) in West Java. He also encouraged all regency and city governments to remain actively involved in preparing their best delegations to ensure the spirit of Quranic recitation training continues in every region.

He added that collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government, regency/city governments, and all elements of society is the key to the success of the MTQ. With the support of all parties, the MTQ is expected to not only succeed as an event but also to strengthen Islamic values and the unity of the West Java community.
