West Java Regencies with the Highest Number of Islands
West Java province has several regencies with multiple islands, particularly along the southern coast.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reveals six regencies in West Java with more than one island each.
Sukabumi Regency tops the list with nine islands, followed by Pangandaran with seven, and Tasikmalaya with five.
The islands are predominantly located along the Indian Ocean coastline, while Indramayu Regency is the only one in the northern coastal region (Pantura) with islands within its administrative area.
Southern West Java is known for its rocky coastline and small islands, whereas northern areas such as Indramayu feature islands in the Java Sea.
The BPS recorded these figures in its 2024 publication titled ‘Land Area and Number of Islands by Regency/City in West Java Province’.
