West Java Provincial Government Threatens to Sack Civil Servants Involved in LGBT

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – The West Java Provincial Government will take firm action against civil servants (ASN) involved in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) activities. Sanctions ranging from light penalties to dismissal have been prepared should civil servants be proven to be involved in such matters.

“I have emphasised several times that we, the West Java Provincial Government, are fighting what is known as LGBT in the West Java region,” said West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan in Bandung on Thursday (8/7/2026).

Erwan continued that he would coordinate with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) to minimise the continued spread of LGBT. They have also asked members of the public to report any cases they discover.

“I hope the public will provide accurate reports, either to the police or to us, so that we can act swiftly to eradicate LGBT in West Java as well,” he said.

He stated that any civil servant indicated to be LGBT would face firm sanctions in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. The heaviest sanction would be dismissing the civil servant concerned.

“I urge, especially if there are civil servants who are LGBT, we will impose very firm action in accordance with the laws and regulations. We will dismiss them — the heaviest penalty is to dismiss them,” he said. He added that if a case enters the criminal domain, it will be handed over to law enforcement officials.

Previously, the government designated LGBT as a non-military threat. This is stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025 concerning the general policy on state defence for 2025-2029.
