West Java Provincial Government Takes Over Teras Cihampelas, Targets New Look by October 2026

The West Java Provincial Government has officially received the transfer of management for the Jalan Cihampelas area from the Bandung City Government. This synergy was marked by the signing of the Regional Grant Agreement (NPHD) and the Handover Minutes (BAST) at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (29/7/2026). This step serves as the starting point for the redevelopment of Teras Cihampelas to restore its prestige as a centre for the creative industry, fashion, and a premier tourist destination. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that close collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung City Government continues to produce concrete steps in resolving urban issues. He emphasised that the province’s role is no longer limited to managing administrative policies but now includes directly handling technical development matters on the ground. ‘West Java Province is currently not just dealing with administration, but also technical matters. Perhaps this is the first time in history that a provincial government is building pavements and parks. This kind of development focus is intended for urban centre areas, while for rural areas we focus on road infrastructure development,’ said KDM, the Governor’s nickname, after the signing. Following this handover, the West Java Provincial Government will move quickly to complete the administrative process as a foundation for commencing physical redevelopment. Governor KDM hopes that Cihampelas can once again thrive as an icon of Bandung City with global appeal. ‘After Teras Cihampelas was handed over to the Provincial Government, we will immediately carry out administrative arrangements to fix Cihampelas. The goal is for this area to return to its former glory; to become a centre for the creative industry, a fashion barometer, and a visiting hub for people from various regions, including foreign tourists,’ he said. The new Teras Cihampelas is expected to synergise with the resumption of flight services at Husein Sastranegara Airport. Governor KDM is optimistic this will boost foreign tourist visits, particularly from neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. ‘With the resumption of operations at Husein Airport, I am confident more tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei will return. They often come just for a haircut or facial treatment, and end up staying longer. Because the city’s revenue relies on hotel and restaurant taxes, public areas must be made as attractive as possible to invite many visits,’ he stated.
