West Java Provincial Government strengthens Islamic economic ecosystem in industrial areas
West Java Provincial Government is strengthening the Islamic economic ecosystem in industrial areas by providing prayer facilities, halal food, and support services for workers. West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan stated the move is due to the majority of workers in the region’s industrial zones being Muslim. ‘Given the majority Muslim workforce in West Java, the Islamic industrial ecosystem must be strengthened, from prayer facilities and halal food to other support services,’ he said in a statement in Bandung on Sunday. He added that strengthening the Sharia ecosystem is part of broader Islamic economic development, encompassing halal industries, Muslim-friendly tourism, pesantren education, Sharia banking, and halal certification. West Java’s potential for Islamic economic development is bolstered by its 50.4 million Muslim population. Sharia banking assets in the region are projected to reach approximately Rp105 trillion by 2025. The province also hosts 12,977 pesantrens—around 30.6% of Indonesia’s total—which are considered a key asset for community-based Islamic economic development. ‘We are proud that West Java has ranked among the top three in the 2026 Adinata Sharia Awards. Last year, the province secured overall victory with top results across multiple categories,’ he concluded.
