West Java Provincial Government Shuts Down PT Mas Putih Belitung Mining Operations in Karawang
The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar) has closed the operations of PT Mas Putund Belitung, which manages a mine in Tamansari Village, Pangkalan District, Karawang Regency, on Tuesday (15/9). The closure was marked by the installation of ‘Satpol PP Line’ at the mine’s entrance gate by the West Java Regional Secretary (Sekda), Herman Suryatman, accompanied by the Head of the West Java Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and representatives from the Karawang Regency Government.
Herman stated that the authorities had repeatedly reminded the company to fulfil several requirements to allow its mining business to continue. However, following a third warning, the company has still failed to comply.
“The West Java Provincial Government has sent three warnings in May 2025, May 2026, and most recently in August 2026. There are various items that must be fulfilled and completed for this mining business to proceed, but the fact is that upon our inspection today, they have not been met; many items remain incomplete,” he explained.
Herman emphasised that no activities are permitted until all requirements are met, particularly those involving social issues. “There must be no activity until everything is completed, such as resolving social issues. The company will be invited tomorrow to discuss various challenges and obstacles on the ground,” he added.
The mining output managed by PT Mas Putih Belitung consists of raw materials for cement, which are supplied to PT Jui Shin Indonesia. The mine’s operations utilise a 10-kilometre stretch of provincial road, specifically the Badami-Loji section. Every day, dozens of trucks with a 30-tonne capacity pass through, causing significant road damage. “The consequence of this mining exploration using provincial roads is that the road is now damaged,” he added.
The impact of these mining activities has been a subject of complaints from local residents. Representatives of the community presented their grievances to the Governor of West Java yesterday, which led to the immediate response of closing the mining operations today.
The Governor has issued a warning in the form of administrative sanctions. For these sanctions to be lifted, PT Mas Putih Belitung must fulfil four specific clauses: the construction of public facilities around the mining area, road repairs, pavement revitalisation, and the restructuring of local stalls (warung).
“In the name of regulations, in the name of the law, and certainly in the interest of the community, we are halting these mining operations. The sanctions will only be lifted if the four clauses are met,” he concluded.
