West Java Provincial Government Provides Waiting Allowance for Virgo Ship Survivors

Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the West Java Provincial Government will provide a waiting allowance for survivors of the Virgo Transport 8 accident.

Each survivor is said to receive a waiting allowance of Rp7 million.

“The breakdown is Rp2 million for the flight ticket home, Rp1 million for provisions while they are there, and Rp4 million for their families at home because they lost the money on the ship that they had earned from a month of work,” said Dedi in Bandung on Tuesday.

It has been reported that so far, 12 survivors of the ill-fated ship are residents of West Java, comprising 11 people from Garut Regency and one resident of Cianjur.

The survivors are currently in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

“We convey the information that the victims from Garut Regency number 22 people; 11 have not been found as of now, 11 are safe and currently in Banjarmasin City, and there is 1 resident of Cianjur Regency,” he said.

Dedi also stated that if there are victims who die, he will provide condolence money of Rp25 million per victim to their heirs.

“For families who are eventually declared dead, once the entire evacuation is declared over, we are preparing Rp25 million each per victim for their heirs,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the evacuation and victim handling process. He also expressed hope that the Virgo Transport 8 accident would be the last such incident and that no similar events would occur again.

“For that, I express my gratitude; hopefully this incident will be the last one, and there must be no more ship accidents in Indonesia,” said Dedi.
