West Java Provincial Government Partners with KPK to Shield Officials and Their Families from Corruption

West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan has stressed the importance of upholding integrity for officials within the West Java Provincial Government and their spouses while carrying out their duties.

This was emphasised by Deputy Governor Erwan during the opening of a Technical Guidance event on Family Integrity, a collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Hall in Cimahi on Friday (24/7).

Carrying the theme ‘Realising Family Integrity Through the Cultivation of Anti-Corruption Values’, the activity was attended by echelon II officials, such as heads of departments, bureaus, and agencies, along with their husbands or wives.

‘The goal is to remain with integrity, with no intention of committing corruption or accepting gratuities. The main objective is that when their term of office ends, all officials can finish with a good ending,’ said Erwan.

According to Erwan, the anti-corruption education initiated with the KPK is an essential preventive step. He underlined that there should be no lifestyle demands from the family—especially from a spouse—that burden the official’s duties as a public servant.

‘As exemplified by the KPK representative, often a person intends to work with integrity, but because of pressure from their spouse, they end up falling into corruption. That is why we invited the spouses to this education, so they understand how to provide positive support,’ he said.

KPK Deputy Chairperson Ibnu Basuki Widodo stated that the fight against corruption is not always about prosecution, but also encompasses education, prevention, and public participation.

Ibnu mentioned that it is not only the official who needs to be fortified, but their spouse must also become the main supporter to prevent corruption from occurring.

‘A family or spouse with integrity is one that brings peace to the household. This encourages us to live according to our means and income. At the very least, the spouse becomes the primary reminder not to commit corruption,’ Ibnu explained.

He added that the active role of all elements, from the general public and religious leaders to educators, is crucial to remind each other and create an ecosystem free from corruption.
