West Java Provincial Government Officially Takes Over Management of Teras Cihampelas, Targeting Completion by October
The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar) has officially received the transfer of management for the Cihampelas Street area from the Bandung City Government (Pemkot Bandung). This strategic synergy was formalised through the signing of the Regional Grant Agreement (NPHD) and the Handover Certificate (BAST) at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (29/7).
This asset transfer marks the beginning of a comprehensive redevelopment of Teras Cihampelas. The objective is to restore the area’s prestige as a centre for creative industries, a fashion barometer, and a leading tourist destination in Bandung.
The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, emphasised that the collaboration between the provincial and city governments is a concrete step towards resolving urban issues. He noted that the provincial government’s role is transforming from merely managing administrative policies to engaging directly in technical field development. “West Java Province is no longer just handling administration, but also technical matters. This may be the first time in history that a provincial government is building pavements and parks. Such redevelopment focus is intended for urban centres, while for rural areas, we focus on road infrastructure,” said Dedi.
Following the asset handover, the West Java Provincial Government will move swiftly to complete administrative processes to lay the foundation for physical works. The Governor aims for the entire process, from tendering to on-site construction, to proceed transparently and rapidly. “Administrative matters and everything related are targeted to be completed within one month, so that all physical work is finished by October,” he explained. He also guaranteed that the tender process would be open to the public to maintain integrity and prevent malpractice.
Dedi is optimistic that the new face of Cihampelas will synergise with the resumption of flight services at Husein Sastranegara Airport. This is expected to boost international tourist arrivals, particularly from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. “With the reopening of Husein Airport, I am confident more tourists will arrive. Since city revenue relies on hotel and restaurant taxes, public areas must be developed as attractively as possible to invite more visits,” he added.
The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, expressed high appreciation for this strategic collaboration, noting that the cooperation has already yielded results for several vital projects in Bandung. “Alhamdulillah, an extraordinary synergy has now been established between the city and provincial governments. Of the three main issues we discussed with the Governor, all are progressing well. The Legok Nangka waste treatment plant has had its groundbreaking, and Teras Cihampelas has been officially handed over,” said Farhan.
This change in management is expected to serve not only as a physical infrastructure improvement but also as a strong stimulus to revitalise the creative economy and trade in the heart of Bandung.
