West Java Provincial Government Distributes Beef Cattle Breeding Stock to Three Regencies to Safeguard Food Security
The Provincial Government of West Java, through the Food Security and Livestock Service (DKPP), has distributed assistance in the form of 24 beef cattle breeding stock to three farmer groups in Pangandaran, Sumedang, and Ciamis regencies. The assistance was provided to support food security and agribusiness in the agricultural sector while also safeguarding the conservation and utilisation of local livestock genetic resources.
The handover of the beef cattle breeding stock was directly overseen by the Head of the West Java Provincial DKPP, Linda Al Amin, together with the Head of the UPTD Balai Perbibitan dan Pengembangan Inseminasi Buatan Ternak Sapi Potong Ciamis, drh. Vidi Wulandari. The handover was also attended by the respective regional leaders, namely the Regent of Pangandaran, the Regent of Sumedang, and the Regent of Ciamis.
The three selected beneficiary groups were the Tirta Mulya Livestock Group in Pangandaran, Mekar Mandiri in Sumedang, and Karya Mekar I in Ciamis. Each livestock group received eight superior cattle breeding stock, comprising seven female cattle and one male.
The distribution of the breeding stock targeted three different locations in West Java. The handover for the Tirta Mulya Group was carried out in Padaherang District, Pangandaran Regency, on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The handover for the Mekar Mandiri Group took place in Lebaksiuh Village, Sumedang Regency, on Thursday (13/8/2026). Subsequently, the handover for the Karya Mekar I Group was held at the UPTD BPPIBTSP Ciamis, Ciamis Regency, on Friday (14/8/2026).
Linda stated that this strategic activity is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of West Java Governor Regulation Number 2 of 2018 concerning the Development of Livestock Seeds and/or Breeding Stock and Forage in the Community. “Robust breeding will have an impact on the realisation of competitive cultivation businesses in the community, which will ultimately lead to increased income and welfare for livestock farmers,” said Linda on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
The breeds distributed were tailored to regional potential, namely Peranakan Ongole cattle for Pangandaran and Sumedang, and the pride of West Java, the Pasundan cattle, for farmers in Ciamis.
The selection of the three recipient groups was not carried out arbitrarily but had undergone a very strict administrative selection and field verification process. Based on the Minutes of Livestock Group Verification Results dated 27 July 2026, the three groups were recommended after achieving satisfactory eligibility scores. The Tirta Mulya and Karya Mekar I groups both achieved a score of 72.5, while Mekar Mandiri achieved a score of 62.0.
The verification ensured that each recipient group already possessed adequate livestock facilities in the form of pens and potential feed resources, so that the survival and breeding of the cattle can be properly guaranteed.
