West Java Police: Woman's Abuser in Bandung Faces 12 Years in Prison

Bandung — The West Java Regional Police have charged Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the case involving the confinement and physical abuse of a woman identified by the initials YTR, with multiple articles that carry a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years.

West Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stated that the suspect is being charged under Article 466 paragraph (2), Article 451, Article 446 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 126 paragraph (2), as well as Article 23 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code (KUHP).

“Looking at the events and the actions taken, the suspect has committed unnatural and sadistic acts. We condemn such violence collectively. Therefore, the West Java Regional Police will maximise the application of these articles to ensure the suspect receives an appropriate punishment,” said Rudi at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters in Bandung on Friday.

He expressed hope for support from all parties to ensure the legal process is carried out to its fullest extent.

Rudi also expressed his deep concern regarding the victim’s ordeal. According to him, women should be able to enjoy a sense of safety and protection from all forms of violence.

“We express our deep condolences and concern over this incident. Our women should be in a safe and protected condition. This is a matter of shared concern,” he said.

In this case, the West Java Regional Police have named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect for the alleged confinement and abuse of YTR in a boarding house located in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency.

As a result of these actions, the victim sustained severe injuries to several parts of her body, resulting in impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally.

“These acts were carried out repeatedly due to resentment and jealousy towards the victim,” Rudi added.
