West Java Police: Woman's Abuser in Bandung Faces 12 Years in Prison

The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have charged Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the confinement and abuse of a woman in Bandung, with multiple articles carrying a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that the suspect’s actions were inhumane and sadistic. “We strongly condemn this violence. The suspect has been charged with Article 466 paragraph (2), Article 451, Article 446 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 126 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code,” Rudi said at the West Java Police Headquarters in Bandung on Friday. He expressed deep concern over the victim’s ordeal, noting that women should feel safe and protected from all forms of violence. The police have confirmed that the suspect, Taufik Hidayat, was arrested for the alleged confinement and torture of the victim, identified by the initials YTR, at a boarding house in Cileunyi, Bandung Regency. The repeated abuse left the victim with severe injuries, including impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally. Rudi attributed the suspect’s actions to jealousy and rage towards the victim.
