West Java Police to Conduct Psychiatric Evaluation on Suspect in Woman's Three-Year Confinement
The West Java Regional Police will involve psychiatric experts to examine the psychological condition of Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR (29), to complete the investigation process.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said the examination is necessary to obtain an initial picture of the suspect’s mental state after he allegedly confined and abused the victim for three years.
“We are also involving several experts, psychiatric experts, so that we have initial data on the suspect’s mental condition,” Rudi said in Bandung on Wednesday.
According to him, the acts allegedly committed by the suspect against the victim were abnormal and beyond the limits of normal behaviour towards a partner.
“Because what he did, as you all know, is something abnormal, something beyond the usual behaviour towards a girlfriend, which we can say is too sadistic,” he stated.
In addition to the psychiatric examination, West Java Police have placed Taufik Hidayat in a special cell while he undergoes the legal process. The suspect is detained alone in a cell equipped with CCTV cameras and under strict officer supervision.
“We will then detain him in a special cell that has been fitted with CCTV and he will be alone under our supervision,” he said.
Rudi explained that investigators are currently conducting an initial examination of the suspect before official detention to further explore the sequence of events experienced by the victim. He added that medical examination results on the victim showed damage to several body parts, allegedly due to confinement and abuse that lasted for approximately three years.
Previously, West Java Police personnel arrested Taufik Hidayat at a house belonging to a relative of the perpetrator in Griya Pesona Housing Complex, Ciparay, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6) afternoon. He is suspected of confining and abusing YTR in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, causing the victim to suffer serious injuries and impaired bodily functions.
