The West Java Regional Police are taking enforcement action against three-axle trucks and heavy freight vehicles identified as a key factor in slowing traffic during the Lebaran homecoming period. West Java Regional Police Chief Irjen Pol Rudi Setiawan stated that according to police analysis, numerous traffic congestion incidents and accidents along homecoming routes are frequently triggered by three-axle trucks parked along roadsides or experiencing difficulties whilst traversing uphill sections.

“Several traffic accidents occur because three-axle vehicles are parked on roadsides, thus slowing vehicle flow, particularly on uphill and downhill routes,” said Rudi during an inspection of the Integrated Command Post for Operation Ketupat Lodaya 2026 in the Nagreg area, Bandung District, on Sunday (15 March).

He explained that the presence of heavy-tonnage trucks often impedes the movement of other vehicles, triggering lengthy queues at several points along homecoming routes.

To address this issue, the police force together with relevant agencies have prepared parking facilities to house three-axle vehicles that violate regulations during the homecoming period. “We have prepared several parking areas. If violations continue to occur, those vehicles will be impounded,” he asserted.

In addition to enforcement measures, the police have also urged freight transport companies to replace large vehicles with smaller ones during the homecoming period to reduce the potential for traffic disruption. “We are asking transport operators to use smaller vehicles so as not to disrupt the smooth flow of homecoming traffic,” said Rudi.

The Regional Police Chief added that enforcement against three-axle vehicles has been carried out across several areas in West Java. “Several district police commands have already undertaken enforcement action. I have received reports from Sumedang and several other areas where similar actions have also been taken,” he added.

This measure is part of the police force’s effort to ensure smooth Lebaran homecoming traffic whilst reducing the risk of traffic accidents. “We want homecoming to run smoothly, safe travel, and families to reach their destinations safely and happily,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) has reminded three-axle and above truck operators and drivers to comply with operational restrictions during the year-end and New Year holiday period. The manufacturing industries for sheet glass, lightweight concrete, and ceramics have voiced concerns regarding the proposed operational restrictions on three-axle trucks. Exporters have proposed that no restrictions be placed on three-axle truck operations during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays. The Association of Logistics and Forwarders Indonesia (ALFI) has criticised the imposition and socialisation of operational restrictions on three-axle trucks on toll routes during the three-day Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday holiday period. During the 2024 Lebaran homecoming traffic, the National Police took enforcement action against over 5,000 three-axle and above freight transport vehicles for violating Idul Fitri restrictions.
