Nagreg, Bandung Regency — The West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated on Sunday (15 March) that the “partial one-way” traffic strategy represents a key field measure for officers to ease congestion during the mudik (holiday exodus) period.

According to him, the scheme, which differs from permanent one-way systems, is applied situationally based on vehicle queue length at congestion-prone points such as Limbangan and Nagreg.

Rudi noted the scheme has proven effective in clearing traffic congestion within minutes. Coordination with the West Java Police Traffic Directorate is also conducted to ensure traffic backlogs do not impede vehicle movement.

“The results are quite effective within a relatively short time period; this can clear traffic flow. We saw it just now — in just 10 minutes, they said, it was able to flow smoothly again in Limbangan,” said Rudi at the Nagreg Integrated Post.

He added that besides managing traffic on toll roads, personnel are also concentrated to ensure smooth operation of arterial roads from Nagreg to the Central Java border.

“Today we are also focusing on arterial roads. The last two days we conducted management handling on toll road sections. Today we are operating from Karawang towards the East Priangan region,” he said.

Based on field monitoring, vehicle flow on the sixth day before Eid recorded a 100 per cent increase compared to normal days.

“Praise be, there was a 100 per cent increase, but as we can see together, traffic is flowing quite smoothly,” he stated.

Police predict the mudik wave is divided into two phases. Following stable increases today, the second peak of the mudik wave is estimated to occur on 19-20 March.

“It seems this first increase is relatively still stable. Perhaps the second mudik peak is estimated to occur on the 19th-20th when there will be increased mudik flow. But we in all ranks are prepared,” said Rudi.

Meanwhile, data from Bandung Regency Transportation Office showed the volume of vehicles passing through the Nagreg route was quite high.

Head of Transport Development at Bandung Regency Transportation Office Eric Alam Prabowo stated that by Sunday evening, approximately 43,000 vehicles had passed through.

This figure is higher than Saturday, when 39,000 vehicles passed through in 24 hours.

Eric added that this figure also increased approximately 44 per cent compared to the sixth day before Eid 2025, and is expected to continue rising as counting is still ongoing.
