West Java Police Identify 141 Illegal U-Turns on Pantura Route Following Fatal Indramayu Crash

The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have identified 141 illegal U-turn points along the Pantura route in Indramayu Regency. This discovery follows a recent fatal traffic accident in the area and has prompted calls for immediate inter-agency coordination to improve road safety.

According to the latest data, there are a total of 220 U-turn facilities along the Pantura route in Indramayu. However, AKBP Jimmy Manurung, Head of the Sub-Directorate for Law Enforcement at the West Java Traffic Police, stated that the majority of these lack official permits or clear legality. “Of the 220 existing U-turns, only 79 are recorded as legal, while the remaining 141 are illegal,” he explained during a press briefing in Indramayu on Monday.

In response to these findings, the police will immediately coordinate with the relevant technical agencies that have authority over the national road. The objective is to ensure that only U-turn points that meet safety standards and possess proper legality remain operational. Jimmy emphasised that regulation is crucial given the Pantura route’s characteristically dense traffic flow, where non-standard U-turn points significantly increase the risk of traffic accidents.

“We will coordinate with the stakeholders to make improvements. The goal is to ensure that only those that are truly legal and safe for the public are operated,” he stressed. In addition to the general data collection, the Traffic Directorate is also specifically investigating the status of the U-turn at the location of the fatal accident in Kiajaran Kulon Village, Lohbener District. Investigators are currently verifying with other agencies to determine whether the U-turn at the crash site was legal or illegal. The results of this analysis will be announced once the process is complete.
