West Java Police Hand Over Taufik Hidayat's Case File to Prosecutor's Office
Investigators from the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Directorate of West Java Regional Police have handed over the case file of Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the assault and unlawful confinement of his victim YTR (29), to the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday (21/7).
In the submitted file, Taufik is charged with multiple articles of the Criminal Code, carrying a combined threat of more than ten years’ imprisonment.
“The suspect in the case file is alleged to have violated articles of the Criminal Code, namely Articles 466, 468, 469, 451 and 446, which carry a maximum penalty of 12 years. In addition, the suspect is also alleged to have violated articles relating to sexual violence offences, which carry a penalty of 15 years,” said the Head of the Legal Information Section at the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office, Nur Sricahyawijaya, on Tuesday (21/7).
Cahya said the submitted file would be examined before any further process. If the file is declared complete, the Prosecutor’s Office will set a trial date.
“If it is not yet complete, the examining prosecutors will issue a notification stating that the investigation is incomplete and ask the West Java Regional Police investigators to complete it,” he said.
As to where Taufik’s trial will be held, Cahya said this had yet to be decided.
“It will depend on the location of the crime scene or the place of the offence. The examining prosecutors handling this case will determine where the trial will take place,” he said.
For the time being, Taufik and the other pieces of evidence remain at the West Java Regional Police. If the file is declared complete, Taufik’s detention will subsequently be transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office.
“The handover of the suspect and evidence will be carried out once the case file submitted today is declared complete. There will then be coordination and consultation between the examining prosecutors and the investigators regarding when it will take place,” he said.
As is known, Taufik Hidayat was arrested by the West Java Regional Police’s Mobile Detective Unit after previously being on the run. He is the sole suspect in the assault and unlawful confinement of a woman with the initials YTR.
The abuse and confinement inflicted by Taufik on YTR took place over a considerable period. According to the reconstruction conducted, the abuse carried out by Taufik began in 2024 and continued until it came to light in 2026.
